The proposal includes the following key design considerations, namely:
- Provision of a link road linking Saul Road and Ballyhornan Road, realignment of associated junctions and upgrading of existing public roads where applicable;
- Phasing of housing development in relation to infrastructural works;
- Provision of pedestrian and cycleway links to Monabot Road and Ardfern Park, and onto Ballyhornan Road;
- The layout shall be designed to provide for maximum permeability for bus services.
Transport Assessment
- A comprehensive Transportation Assessment (TA) will assess the proposed development upon all modes of transport and highlight any required mitigation works (both active / green and / or infrastructure). A suite of green travel measures in support of the proposal, will assist in reducing the need to travel by private car
- The proposal and associated assessment will focus on public transport options and prioritising sustainable transport over private car usage using the Sustainable Transport Hierarchy.
- Throughout the planning application there will be detailed discussions with Translink regarding the provision of public transport enhancements which could be implemented as part of this proposal.
